The Challenge:
The client was one of the world largest industrial distributors with more than 300 US based branch operations and 40 distribution centers. We led the implementation of the Network Optimization Strategy across the United States. Our role was to optimize the distribution capacity by designing and building distribution hub facilities that improve their Cost-To-Serve and performance.
During this 2 year engagement, we also led the turnaround of 4 under-performing distribution centers to stabilize and improve inventory accuracy.
Results:
- $26 M business case for Network Optimization
- 30% increase in hub network productivity due to consolidation of warehouse operations and optimization within facilities.
- Built and / or redesigned 8 network hub distribution operations.
- Managed facility racking and conveyance installation across multiple sites.
- Conducted formal courses at each site with operations teams on critical front line leadership skills required to operate a world class distribution center.
- Implemented Lean management operating systems at each site with supervisor position playbooks to provide framework.
